This is probably the best version of this song and most accurate to the original intent. It's uncommon for modern performances to sing it like this, but a surprising example that got it right was in The Shaggy Dog (or perhaps the sequel The Shaggy DA).

This record has stunned me since I first encountered it in 1973 on the Columbia LP compilation "Eddie Condon's World of Jazz." What a remarkable side! Teddy Bunn is playing chords and licks the early beboppers thought they were inventing a decade LATER (and the Gershwin song itself was a favorite of the early boppers, who built many a so-called "original" on its basic chord structure).

Überirdisch von Ari L. interpretiert, der gesamte Klangkörper der CH, oft kopiert, nie erreicht. Sehr schade, dass dieses kostbare Volksliedgut nicht mehr die Wertstellung hat wie vor Jahren. Jede Musikgattung hat ihre Berechtigung, jedoch sollte man allen gerecht werden. A.B.
